RESOURCES ABOUT HOME EDUCATION
Home Education Resources
Before putting this list, I want to preface that I think people are way too addicted to reading 'How To' books, and should avoid reading books for the sake of 'instruction'. Don't worry about how other people are 'doing it', and listen to your intuition. Empower yourself with self confidence in what you do and how you do it. In 9 years of home education I've only ever read two books about it all. One ws before I ever even had kids, when I was curious about John Taylor Gatto after finding out he was my friends biological father. The other was 'The Unprocessed Child' by Valerie Fitzenreiter, because she lived near me and someone close to her said to me once 'you're really an unschooler like Valerie', so I read the book. That's it. I don't read about how other people suggest you should homeschool/unschool and I certainly don't bother reading books from people who suggest how I should raise my children. I honestly can't stand parenting books/magazines...........They should all just have one page in them that simply says 'Do It Your Way.....Follow Your Intuition'.......that's it, nothing more.
If you find yourself curious about home education and are looking for the written word on it, then below are a few resources. My list is limited because as mentioned above, I don't think parenting instruction books are valuable.
Education Otherwise
List of Books at Green Parent blog
John Taylor Gatto
One of the pioneers of home education. Ironically, I was very good friends with a guy in my twenties who found his biological father around the time we met, who turns out is JT Gatto. My friend grew up with the name Jeff Gorvetzian but learned he was born with the name Raven Gatto. Anywho, Dumbing Us Down is a good read.
John Holt
another pioneer, the father of 'unschooling'. his 'Growing Without Schooling' is good read if you can find it
