The children wanted to rearrange their 'Nature Shelves' today, which got me thinking about how dusty our house is. But, as usual, I found other more exciting things to do than 'dust'. I love our Nature Shelves. They're just 3 small shelves tucked away at the bottom of our staircase, but to my children it's a haven of little 'treasures' they found from either our back garden, or from when we are out and about exploring the forests and seasides. We have a 'Nature Box' we tuck delicate insect carcasses in. Since I can remember, I've always put a big emphasis on spending time exploring nature with my children, and observing ways to mark the seasons. Watching wind patterns, pressing seasonal flowers, saying hello and goodbye to the 'Green Man', harvesting edible wild foods, playing in piles of leaves, mapping birds migrating patterns, celebrating full moons, listening to bird song, and so on. My children may not grow up with a sense of urgency to climb a corporate ladder, but they will grow up appreciating and understanding the natural world around them. I was going to drone on and on about this some more, but I'll just close with some dusty pictures.
