Honeysuckle and Strawberries

Today the children and I enjoyed a day that lingered from some fun last night.

Yesterday evening was filled with immense laughter and fun playing 'Go Fish' and 'Stealing Casino' card games. My cherubs were clowns with each other,  displaying an amazing sense of humour. My 7 year old also enjoys 'Solitaire' so we ended the evening with her playing a solitaire game or two, whilst my other two built 'Houses of Cards' (well, one of them built Tee-Pees). They woke up this morning getting right back to it.

Afterwards we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, and then a lovely walk through the woods to our local shops for English Strawberries! (we only eat strawberries that are local and in season, so this IS a truly special moment today), we then returned home to find Honeysuckle growing in our attached 'lean to'. To have Honeysuckle and Strawberries in a given day can only result in a day worth blogging about.

We then spent the day learning all about the 'Colour Wheel'. This is such a basic thing to learn, but one we didn't want to skip before we embark upon our big adventure of 'Art Appreciation' (stay tuned for more!).  Eyes lit up and lightbulbs went off when my children had some hands on experience with 'Primary' makes 'Secondary' makes 'Tertiary' colours. So we proceeded to make our own colour wheels. The girls used tissue paper, glue, glitter, whilst Zephyr and I found strips of colour to cut out of magazines.

After putting our colour wheels up, we settled in for some story time (it was cold and windy out today, so we hunkered down indoors most of the day). We enjoyed 'When the Root Children Wake Up' which complimented our 'rainbow colours' day (''Dipping their brushes into the rainbow, the Root Children paint the bugs until they sparkle like jewels').

So far, no bickering or squabbling today. We're now eating Jaffa Cakes and going to search 'YouTube' for something interesting to entertain us before grabbing our 'Nancy Drew' book we've been reading a chapter of each night for awhile now (we love mysteries!)

I hope all of you are enjoying this lovely weekend! (what wind? what rain?)
