Down the Rabbit Hole

Event Brochure Cover
But now I'm back!  Have been having some fun hanging out in Wonderland, at a 'Mad Hatter Tea Party' event for our local home ed group.  I've also been busy beforehand as I was the one putting on this event!  I'm mad, I know.  But was so much fun.

I'd planned this for a loooong while, the children helping me here and there along the way.  Had set up a 'Don't Be Late' event invite, then got to work creating. Indigo and Cypress helped make a 'Queen of Hearts' tablecloth using a potato-stamp we created. Indigo also painted a charity shop tea trolly we picked up super cheap. Indigo also decorated most of the 'Humpty Dumpty' eggs for the egg-n-spoon race. Her friends and sister each decorated an egg too..they were clever works of art!
Indigo's Humpty Dumpty
A dear Home Ed mum and good friend came over and drew the Cheshire Cat for our 'Pin the Grin on the Cheshire Cat' game (used paper taped to a magnetic board to draw the cat, then cut a large grin out of magnetic paper..Voila! instant fun happy game).

The smile is magnetic paper!

And this lovely friend also, with the help of hers and my kiddo's, put the 'Painting the Roses Red' game together. Paper flowers print outs stuck to lolly sticks, taped to side of planters covered in happy paper.

Getting ready to Paint the Roses Red

We had a 'Mad Hatters Hat Making' tent next to a canopy decorated to look like a nice living room (happy rug, child size recliner, tea tables, and a lovely buffet table next to a big red treasure chest that was the 'Lucky Dip'. Two fantastic Home Ed mums set up a 'Face Painting' canopy as well, and WOW, the face painting was so amazing.

Children enjoyed Pin the Grin, the Humpty Dumpty egg race, a 'Don't Be Late' white rabbit sack race, a 'Find the Sleeping Dormouse' (hidden beneath teacups), 'Painting the Roses Red' and a 'Tea Time Race' game, where you filled a teaspoon from a teapot then raced across to a fill a teacup.

Each child got a colourful event booklet listing all the games in whimsical design with a place to put golden star stickers for completing the games. And extra stickers for winning. All the children got to enjoy 'Lucky Dips' for having stickers and we saw no pouty faces!
The day ended with a Wonderland Scavenger Hunt in the woods, then the grand finale of the 'Hat Making Awards' (little trophies for all the lovely hats).
Oh, and I even threw in some lovely little 'chocolate coin' bags I made that had colourful 'Mad Hatter Winner' tent cards attached - so they looked rather professionally done!

It was all brilliant good fun, and best of all......All the children got on so well the entire day!  I couldn't believe it actually, with so many children and parents.....it flowed nicely with smiles and laughter the entire time. Helps that the weather wound up perfect!

Now I'm madly packing for a one week holiday. We leave Saturday!
I'm going to come back and post more pictures as soon as a Home Ed mum can send, as I wasn't able to take pics at the event since I was busy handing out golden stickers and Lucky Dips :)
