Solstice & Father's Day (Greetings from Yesterday)

I'm sneaking in a few moments to say what a fabulous day we had out-and-about yesterday. Celebrating Father's Day with the kiddo's incredible daddy (who happens to also be my husband!), and reflecting on the Solstice and incredible turning point of the year. We spent the entire day out in nature, exploring an area called Petworth Park. I brought a picnic of tasty morsels I had spent the previous day preparing, and we could not have asked for more perfect weather. Hubby says he had the most incredible day being spoiled ;-) We've been enjoying time in our outdoor classroom this past week. Hubby found 7 lovely signets in the nearby pond the kiddo's went and observed (amazing how the Father swan protects his babies. AND feeds them by chopping big patches of grass with his beak the signets then come and eat). Our back garden tadpoles are looking ever-so-cute with their little tiny legs. We needed to put a large rock, or something, in the tank so they can hop up when their lifecycle requires land-living. But, we didn't have a rock, so improvised by putting the head of a stone garden sculpture we had nearby in the tank. It just so happens to be an alligator head, which looks rather bizarre, and hopefully is not frightening the tadpoles (ha! somebody call PETA). The kiddo's found a large hidden bucket of sand in some vine, and have turned it into a home for their 'tickle spiders' which is really just their fingers they personify as these little creatures that talk and interact with each other. Their older brother has been playing 'tickle spiders' with them since they were born, which is great because they always have toys attached to their arms they can entertain themselves with. (great for road trips!). They also played 'Rainforest Land' in a patch of bold yellow/orange flowers hubby grew. Amazing how chilldren can use their imaginations if left to do so. We're now preparing for the big Home Educator picnic tomorrow at Nonsuch park!! Then a trip for Derek to attend New Student orientation at Wiltshire college on Wednesday. Big week ahead!
