Sunday School

"Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher" - William Wordsworth

This Sunday has turned out to be 'perfect weather' day, so the children and I grabbed a rucksack, threw on our shoes and headed outdoors.  Zephyr fussed at first saying he wanted to stay in bed, but I assured him he'd enjoy the adventure, so he sauntered to the car with us, moaning about it until we all saw some ladies on horses trotting down our street.  The children are always delighted to see horses. Any horse. We can see a million horses in a day, but they are just as excited to see the next one.
Typical scene on our street
We didn't drive far, just a few short minutes and we were at Ferring Rife.  A place we'd yet to explore.

Before arriving at our destination, I popped in quickly to the local shop for some warm fresh French bread and local English strawberries to take along on our adventure.

Within minutes, Zephyr was saying he was glad he came. We saw many various butterflies, birds, and even frogs, before arriving at a muddy bank that clearly said 'Explore'. And so, we explored.

The water was crystal clear, shallow, and COLD, but kiddo's loved every splashing moment. Cypress stroked the lilly pads and was quite chuffed saying 'the first time I ever felt a lilly pad!'. Apparently, this had been a life-long goal of hers to get up close and personal with a lilly pad.

After a nice spell of chasing water bugs and dragonflies, my little cherubs decided some mud play was on the agenda. As usual, I had to endure the stares of well-dressed people walking by in their Sunday best, that clearly said ''oh dear, what a mess''.  But my happy children didn't seem to mind the muddy mess, nor did I.

On the way back to the car, the children chatted about their many theories of this and that, before we met a friendly horse who talked to us, then a nice lady came by with a bag of apples the children could feed the friendly horse with. She talked for a long while with the children, listening to all of their experiences.

Then Zephyr started moaning again to go home,

Zephyr never leaves home w/out his football anymore
so here we are. Back from our outdoor Classroom where we learned lots just from observing and exploring, and which has inspired Cypress to paint a lovely picture.

We met the black dog when he came splashing in the stream with us
