My cup runneth over

This week, it has dawned on me that I've become rather 'eccentric' in (some of) my ways. I hear this is common symptom of 'aging'. So, let me share with you the first sign of my 'aging' awareness. Meet my coffee cup.

She's pretty isn't she? Yes, there are numerous (shameless amounts) of other mugs in the old cupboard I could use, but I choose THIS one to drink my morning cappuccino in. Every single day she joins me. No other coffee cup will do!. Le 'Cochon' is a cup I inherited from my now deceased parents. My parents were not wealthy in monetary value, nor did they have a lot of valuable 'relics' to pass on. (I interject; however, to boast that they were wealthy in love and spirit, and certainly passed on many valuable memories and lessons I shall cherish forever). I can count on one hand the material items I 'inherited'. There's the small statue of the Virgin Mary, which was the only thing that survived our house burning down on Christmas Eve back in 1978. There's the antique chest-of-drawers that once sat in my Papaw's (maternal grandfather) bedroom of his hand built country shack in Mississippi, where I spent most of my childhood summers playing. My Momma inherited it when Papaw died, and now it sits in my bedroom. There is also is the 'Engineers Know the Formula of Success '' cup that was my Daddy's and now my husband uses for his tea. And then there is this cup. MY priceless cup that my parents were given as a 'thank you' gift back when they helped put on a Cajun Fais Do Do party to raise money for their church. The party was also mixed with a Cochon de Lait, which I won't explain in fear that I lose all my vegetarian friends here. Having this cup and using it faithfully to drink my morning cappuccino keeps me bonded with my now deceased parents. I hope to pass the piggy cup on to one of my children later in life, and that they find comfort with each sip :-) Anyone else have a favourite this or that? An eccentric value of 'aging' you'd like to share? I would Love to hear about it!

  1. England being the land of eccentrics, you fit right in here! I have more eccentricities than I care to remember (actually none about mugs, but about lots of other things!) Eccentrics rule!
