I-Spy Bags (DIY Birthday Gifty)

Wanted to post some nifty I-Spy Bags we created recently for some young friends whose birthday party we attended this past Saturday. Three boys ranging in ages 6 - 10. I don't know why, but I find gifty ideas for boys very difficult; however, these I-Spy Bags seemed neato idea.

The patterns I found online were all about 'sewing', but our machine seems to be skipping thread. So until I can get the machine figured out, I'm confined to using ye oldy-woldy hot glue gun and mega doses of creativity.

Here's my attempt at 'instructions' We basically cut a window out of a large A4 size of felt, fold in half. Fill a Ziploc bag with 2 cups of rice or couscous and about 20 or so small items (birthday candle, crayon, acorn, safety pin, button, bead, used stamp, misc. toy pieces, etc.). Fold the bag in half and glue it together, leaving enough space so the bag can shake. (we may have over filled ours!) Place the bag on the half of the felt that does not have the window and glue it down to to the felt (use Elmer's plain ole glue....I used hot glue gun and does not work well). then fold the half of the felt with the window over so it basically makes a 'bag' around the 'bag'. Glue all the edges together as well as glue the felt to the bag. I used clothes pins to keep the edges secure whilst the glue dried. Jot a list of the items in the bag down on some white paper (if I had the printer hooked up I would have printed out), then glue that white paper to the piece of rectangle felt you cut out to make the window. Since the b'day party was a 'Space' theme, I glued some 'space' fabric I had on the other side. I also cut out some black stars in felt to glue around the front of the bag (getting fancy!). The object of the toy is you shake the bag and try to spy all the items on the list. I hope the bags don't pop and our friends find gobs of rice and small toys scattered around their house :) But, otherwise, a nifty neato idea!!
